Richard Sgaglio: Crazy Little Things Called Love & Life S:2 E: 50
Richard Sgaglio is a communications executive, LGBTQ+ advocate, and lifelong storyteller. His debut novel, “When The Road Narrows” is a searing coming-of-age story exploring identity, faith, live, loss and the desire to live authentically. Published by Spectrum Books (London), the novel, launched worldwide this week and available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other online booksellers inspired Rick’s LIVE performance of the QUEEN Classic “Crazy Little Thing Called Love!”. When The Road Narrows was published in August, and with LGBTQ+ rights facing renewed challenges across the country and globally, its themes of identity, resilience, and hope are more relevant than ever. Sgaglio’s goal is to offer a story that not only resonates with those navigating their own journeys but also sheds light for a broader audience about the personal struggles and triumphs behind the headlines.

Richard Sgaglio resides in Massachusetts, with his husband Bill of 15 years and their two rescue dogs, Cammy and Scooter. Born in the Bronx and raised in Westchester County, he is a marketing and communications expert with over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Throughout his career, Richard has harnessed the power of strategic storytelling and audience engagement to support important causes, viewing himself first and foremost as a writer.

Richard is the co-author of The Forensic Investigation Handbook: An Introduction to the Collection, Preservation, Analysis, and Presentation of Evidence, published by Charles E. Thomas in 2005. Written during a period when he worked as a forensic investigator, the handbook became a widely used textbook in forensic science programs across college campuses nationwide. He recently joined the faculty of Purdue University where he teaches undergraduate communications classes.

Beyond his career achievements, Richard is especially proud of his volunteer work. He has served on the board of directors of Friends of Karen, a nonprofit that supports families with children facing life-threatening illnesses, for six years, including three as board president. His commitment to vulnerable populations extends back to his time in Nevada, where he co-founded The Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth in Las Vegas. This organization provides essential services to homeless youth, many of whom are LGBTQ+ and either ran away from home or were thrown out by their parents due to their sexuality. Richard’s work with the organization has had a lasting impact, underscoring his dedication to inclusivity and social support.

He holds a B.A. in Speech Communication from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and an M.A. in Public Communications from Fordham University in New York City. Through his work, volunteerism, and personal passions, Richard remains dedicated to advancing missions that create a meaningful impact on people’s lives.
