S:2 E22 Kim Depole – Mindful Design & Meditation
Kim Depole, an acclaimed New York City-based interior designer with interiors spanning over two decades is ALSO a lifelong meditator. This combination found great synergy with our theme and message at JAZZforPEACE leading to a widely expanded conversation that inspired a performance by Rick that included Jazz from Brazil along with his own original lyrics that he wrote for the John Coltrane classic Lazy Bird!

Kim Depole is an acclaimed New York City-based interior designer with interiors spanning over two decades. Early in her career, two appearances on OPRAH launched her creative approach to design. A design studio in Nolita was the nucleus for the expression of creativity . Her work on both commercial and residential projects expanded her reach to developers, CEOs, publishers and private residences in the Hamptons and Paris.

A lifelong meditator, Kim’s NEW path seamlessly blends mindfulness with design. She has created a simple technique to transform urban spaces into personal sanctuaries. Her unique method, ‘Designing with your Mind’s Eye,’ combines her extensive experience in interior design with a deep understanding of meditation and mindfulness practices.

Kim’s work is celebrated for going beyond aesthetics, creating homes that are not only visually stunning but also deeply aligned with her clients’ lifestyles and well-being. Kim’s mantra is “to design the outside, you need to go inside.” She guides her clients and empowers them with the resources and tools to expedite their own transformation, helping them create a space that feels like a personal oasis every time they turn the key to open the door.

Kim Depole has made great design accessible to everyone with her Quick Start one-hour Zoom session. Her mission is to highlight the importance of a home that truly supports your lifestyle. “This isn’t just about decorating—it’s about uncovering what brings you joy and creating a space that’s a genuine expression of your individuality, not just following trends. Your home should be more than just a place for your belongings—it should embrace you, inspire you, and hold everything you love close. It’s a space that supports every aspect of your life.

She’s here to inspire the experience of home as a true oasis and sanctuary because she believes this is essential to living a purposeful and expansive life. Based on this quote by Harvey Fierstein”ART HAS THE POWER TO TRANSFORM , TO ILLUMINATE, TO EDUCATE , INSPIRE AND MOTIVATE”, you can trust that Kim’s mindful approach to interiors will do the same!

Pamela Michaux: Mundele Diaries S:2 E:36

Pamela Michaux was taken from Congo at 7, silenced by abuse and racism, and stood alone in court at 12. Mundele Diaries is her rise from survival to global voice. A raw, global memoir that turns silence into strength and pain into purpose, the book is scheduled for re-release in late September, 2025 and her amazing story was the inspiration for Rick’s once-in-a-lifetime performance of the Italian Classic “Estate”. All of which makes for an episode you don’t want to miss! For more information please visit: https://www.amazon.com/Mundele-Diaries-Pamela-Michaux/dp/1917613040/

Meet Pamela Michaux, author of Mundele Diaries — a raw, global memoir that turns silence into strength and pain into purpose. Her story began in Congo, but it belongs to anyone who has ever felt unseen, unloved, or unworthy.

At seven years old, Pamela was sent from Congo to Belgium during political conflict. She was promised safety. What she found was emotional and physical abuse, racism, and the cruel weight of being both too much and never enough. In Africa, she was called “white girl.” In Belgium and France, she was called “nigger.” And the deepest wounds didn’t come from strangers. They came from her own family.

One year later, her siblings arrived. She was eight. Her sister was three. Her brother was seven. Their mother was gone, and as the oldest, she became the mother they no longer had. By twelve, she had endured more than many live in a lifetime. She took my legal guardians to court, moved into an orphanage, fought for her siblings’ protection, and that courage wasn’t a choice — it was survival.

But trauma doesn’t stop when childhood ends. As an adult, she became a stepmother to two girls. And once again faced humiliation and violence — this time from their biological mother. While pregnant, in a private Catholic school, she called her “nigger” and tried to hit her in the stomach. It was a painful déjà vu. But this time, she had a voice.

After her divorce, she had a final reckoning. she realized pain had become her comfort, because it was less painful than what she had survived as a child. That’s when she stopped surviving and started living. That’s when she wrote Mundele Diaries.

Not to expose her past — but to reclaim it. To speak for the child who had to be the protector. For the mother who rose alone. For every person made to feel like a burden, a problem, or a mistake.

The book was originally released—but due to betrayal from someone she trusted, it was removed from sale. That moment could’ve broken her again. Instead, it became her fuel. The final, corrected and complete version of Mundele Diaries will be published on September 23, 2025, in honor of her late mother’s birthday.

Because she doesn’t believe in hiding anymore. She believes in truth. In healing. And in the power of turning your deepest wounds into your greatest calling.

Today, she speaks about:
• Childhood and adult trauma—and how we normalize pain to survive
• Racial identity—especially growing up mixed in a divided world
• Emotional healing—what it really takes to break free
• Generational cycles—and how to stop repeating what hurt us
• Blended family pain, betrayal, and rebuilding from ground zero
• Speaking your truth—even when it costs everything

She don’t speak to impress. She speaks to awaken.

Because what tried to silence her is now the voice that sets others free.

S: 2 E: 20 Roxanne Davenport – Normal Life with Epilepsy

Roxanne Davenport is a writer and advocate for Epilepsy awareness. Her work with “Seize”ure The Day! and Defeating Epilepsy Foundation helps people around the world spreading epilepsy awareness. Defeating Epilepsy Foundation sends newsletters out to people around the world translated in their language. Her message is “people around the world need to know that people with epilepsy are normal.” And, as a piano player herself, she also believes that music can play a role through songs with lyrics that spread epilepsy awareness. All of these good vibrations plus her southern residency of Lewiston, North Carolina brought out a special medley by Rick of Mr. Bojangles and When it’s Sleepy Time Down South making this a one of a kind interview & what we hope will someday be a fundraising experience that also raises awareness for her outstanding mission and advocacy.

Epilepsy doesn’t hold her back or keep her down. She stares for 30 seconds and sometimes shakes her right hand. This is all because of a high fever when she was a baby. Sometimes she can hide having a seizure by leaving a room before it happens. She gets an aura before one.

She had them under control before her insurance made the drug store switch her medicine to a generic brand. Generic medicine is not as good as brand name for epilepsy. It doesn’t have the same amount of the working medication in some of the pills. There can be 80% of the medication and 20% placebo.

Since she had them under control, she was allowed to drive. Not knowing about the generic medicine at that time. She had a car wreck and her daughter was in the front seat with her. This caused her daughter to have a fractured ankle and she has had five surgeries on her ankle in five years. Today her daughter is strong! Whenever anyone asks how she broke her ankle, she never says my mom wrecked the car. She just says, I was in a car wreck.

Now Roxanne wants everyone to understand epilepsy. It effects 300,000 people in the USA alone. She thinks that she is the lucky one since now her seizures are only a few a month. Some people, including children, can have up to 300 a day.

Help her spread the word! Find out more about Roxanne at: http://about.me/roxanne_davenport

He’s also the president of the Word of South Festival of Literature and Music in Tallahassee, Florida, now in its eleventh year of pairing authors and musicians in interesting ways.
Topics Discusses:
What being a Southern writer means to him, and why he founded the Word of South Literary Festival in Tallahassee.
How themes of ignorance, superstition and spirituality play into the novel.
How race and religion are portrayed in the novel.
How the 1930s setting for the novel reveals contemporary issues in society, both in the American South and beyond.
What “Southern gothic” means in 2025: its history and resurgence.
Why “weirdness” both fascinates and repulses people, and what our complicated reaction really says about us.

Season 2 Episode 24 Brings us to Boise, Idaho to meet Katie Baker, a writer, trauma survivor, and author of When The Universe Holds Your Hair Back, a raw memoir about healing from childhood abuse, addiction, and self-destruction through deep personal work and guided psychedelic experiences. Katie brings us a story of authentic healing that is a relatively untapped by our conventional practices, inspiring a Live performance by Rick of the Leon Russell Classic “A Song For You”. Find out more abut Katie and buy her insightful and revealing Book at https://www.peaceandfirehealing.com/universebook

For years, Katie Baker wore the mask of a woman who had it all together. On the surface, she was a successful professional, a loving mother, and the embodiment of relentless perseverance. But beneath that carefully crafted facade, the cracks were deepening into fractures too wide to ignore. Haunted by a childhood of instability—marked by alcoholic fathers, sexual, physical, and verbal abuse, a lack of protection, and exposure to addiction—she carried her pain like an invisible weight. Pressured by societal expectations to “buck up,” she buried her wounds under achievement and resilience, holding onto pain and shame well into her late 40s.

In this raw and unflinching memoir, Katie takes readers on her journey from rock bottom to radical transformation. Guided by courage and therapeutic psychedelics, she confronted the darkness she had spent a lifetime outrunning—unraveling the shame, guilt, and addiction that had stolen so much from her life. Through profound medicine journeys, she unearthed the lost pieces of herself and reclaimed the life she was meant to live.

But this is more than a story of healing—it’s a story of rediscovery. With vulnerability, grit, and humor, Katie reflects on the childhood that shaped her, the courage it took to rebuild, and the light that emerges when we finally face our deepest wounds.

For anyone who has ever struggled to find their way back to themselves, When The Universe Holds Your Hair Back is a beacon of hope, redemption, and the powerful reminder that healing is not a destination—it’s a journey home.
